JAM In The Media

The courage and artistry of JAM have reached far beyond Hillbrow. From features on Carte Blanche to collaborations with international organisations, JAM’s story has resonated with audiences across South Africa and the world.

How Now Brown Cow Productions and the Tsikinya-Chaka Centre launched a series of filmed, short performances, and interviews from the talented company members of JAM. These performances are from various Shakespearean texts and many of them have been translated, by the members, into their own home languages. The collaborative project aims to promote the remarkable work of JAM using the performance medium of Shakespeare, and at the same time to promote African languages.

Inspired by JAM’s journey?

In one of the most powerful media features, JAM member Michael Mazibuko was profiled on Carte Blanche, where he performed Shakespeare’s “To be, or not to be.” For Michael, this soliloquy is no mere recitation — it is the heartbeat of his own life story. As he says, in Hamlet’s words he has “found his soul.”

Moved by Michael’s performance?

These projects have given JAM not only recognition but also a platform to continue their work — bringing Shakespeare to retirement villages, schools, theatres, and international audiences via Arts & Homelessness International.
